McTominay Scores Twice in Manchester United’s Late Comeback Against Brentford

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

In the dying moments of the game, in the 95th minute to be precise, Erik ten Hag’s side found themselves on the brink of a third consecutive defeat at the iconic Old Trafford. The predicament had arisen from an early blunder by Andre Onana, which gifted Mathias Jensen the chance to give the visiting team the lead.

However, the heroics of Scott McTominay would soon transform the mood in Manchester. McTominay, who had only been brought on in the 87th minute, seized the opportunity. He first pounced on a rebound, swiftly followed by a brilliant header from Harry Maguire’s flick-on just a minute later. These two swift strikes secured a remarkable comeback, granting Manchester United all three points.

Reflecting on his incredible performance, McTominay shared his emotions, stating, “That might be one of my favorite moments on a football pitch.” He expressed his happiness at contributing to the team and proving his capabilities. He also delivered a resounding message of perseverance, saying, “Never give up, no matter what situation your life is in, never give up, never throw the towel in.”

For McTominay, this spirit of determination is deeply ingrained at Manchester United, where he has been part of the fabric since the tender age of five. It’s a philosophy he knows better than anyone.

On the other side of the pitch, Brentford’s players were left utterly crushed. They had come tantalizingly close to securing their first victory at Old Trafford since 1937. A glimmer of hope had emerged when Kristoffer Ajer inadvertently put the ball into his own net in the 89th minute, only to be seemingly saved by the offside flag. However, McTominay had other plans, delivering a touch of magic to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

As a result of this dramatic turnaround, Brentford finds themselves in 14th place, three points clear of the relegation zone, and still seeking to add to their solitary win of the season.
