Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has been handed the Super Eagles captain armband by Ahmed Musa, who was the former captain following Vincent Enyeama’s retirement from international duty.

“Mikel is my senior and a big brother. So, Mikel is the captain, not me,” Musa said at a press conference on Thursday.

Shortly after being handed the armband, Mikel said: “I want to thank Ahmed Musa for being a wonderful professional. It takes a man to come out and do what he has done today. I commend him a lot. It will be a new Super Eagles with a new approach.”

The development comes barely 24 hours before the Eagles encounter Egypt in a crucial qualification match for the Africa cup of Nations.
