John Mikel Obi, captain of Nigeria’s under-23 football team at Rio 2016 has promised coach Samson Siasia that the team will win Olympics Gold at the tournament as the perfect birthday present to the Bayelsa born tactician.
Siaisa, who turned 49 on Sunday, was praised by Chelsea player Mikel, who scored one of Nigeria’s goals in the 2-0 defeat of Denmark in the semi-final.
Speaking at a surprise party organised by the players in Rio to mark Siasia’s 49th birthday, Mikel Obi said:
“We rejoice with you our dear chief coach on the celebration of your Birthday. On behalf of the team, I’m promising you that we will work very hard to make sure we win the football gold medal of this Olympics to present to you as your birthday gift.
“You have been a very good leader to us and we will continue to do our best to make sure you are happy and our football loving fans at home.”
Nigeria will face Germany on Wednesday night .
