Tel Aviv, Israel — Several powerful explosions were reported across central Israel on Monday morning after the Israeli military said it detected new missiles launched from the Islamic Republic of Iran, intensifying the ongoing military confrontation between the two countries.
Emergency responders confirmed that at least two people were seriously injured following the blasts. Medical teams from Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency medical, disaster, ambulance and blood bank service, rushed to multiple locations where the explosions were reported.
In a statement released shortly after the incidents, MDA said paramedics were actively searching affected areas and providing urgent medical care to the injured victims.
Paramedics were “searching a number of scenes and treating two unconscious males in serious condition”, the Magen David Adom emergency service said in a statement.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the country’s national military, reported earlier that its monitoring systems had detected incoming missiles fired from Iran toward Israeli territory. Military authorities also confirmed that there were several locations where the projectiles may have struck.
According to the military, Israel’s defensive missile interception systems were activated as soon as the threat was detected.
“Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat,” the military had earlier said.
Okay News reports that the missile launches represent another escalation in the rapidly expanding conflict between Israel and Iran, which has already drawn in several countries across the Middle East.
The confrontation entered its seventh day as regional tensions continued to rise. Israeli air strikes in recent days targeted what officials described as strategic infrastructure inside Iran. Iranian authorities have also reported multiple explosions in Tehran, the country’s capital and largest city.
The fighting has also affected neighbouring countries. Lebanon, a country bordering Israel to the north, has reported casualties from Israeli strikes, while authorities in Qatar said they intercepted a drone that was allegedly targeting a United States military base.
Security analysts warn that continued exchanges of missile attacks between Iran and Israel could further destabilise the region and potentially draw additional global powers into the conflict.
For residents of central Israel, Monday’s explosions served as a reminder that the conflict is increasingly reaching civilian areas. Emergency crews continued to search damaged sites while security officials assessed the scale of the attacks and the possible impact locations.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the condition of the injured victims or the extent of damage caused by the explosions.
Military officials said investigations into the missile strikes and interception efforts were ongoing.
