Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has said the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993, presidential election, MKO Abiola and his wife, Kudirat are true heroes and martyrs of democracy.

MKO Abiola is widely believed to be the winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election which was canceled by the then Head of State Ibrahim Babangida.

In a tribute via his Facebook page on Monday, Fani-Kayode said the country honour their memories and sacrifice.

”On June 12th 1993, MKO Abiola won Nigeria’s freest and fairest presidential election. It was annulled and he was detained by the military.

”He, his wife Kudirat together with many other pro-democracy activists were murdered in cold blood. They were martyrs for democracy and true heroes.

”We honor their memories and sacrifice today,” he wrote.
