Cairo, Egypt – Véron Mosengo-Omba has resigned from his role as Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football, bringing an end to a long-standing career in international football administration.
In a statement issued from Cairo on March 29, 2026, Mosengo-Omba announced that his resignation takes immediate effect, explaining that he intends to focus on personal projects after more than three decades of service in the sport.
Okay News reports that the outgoing secretary general expressed confidence in the future of CAF under its current leadership, led by President Patrice Motsepe. He noted that his time in office was dedicated to promoting football as a tool for unity, education, and opportunity across Africa.
Mosengo-Omba also addressed past controversies, stating that he leaves office with “peace of mind” after clearing doubts and allegations that had been raised against him. He added that he is proud of the progress made in African football during his tenure.
He concluded by thanking CAF leadership, his colleagues, and stakeholders for their support, expressing hope that the gains achieved in developing football across the continent will be sustained in the years ahead.
