Nigerian comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr Jollof, has issued a public apology after a mid-air altercation with social media commentator Very Dark Man (VDM) on a United Nigeria Airlines flight.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on a flight from Asaba, Delta State, to Lagos, quickly went viral after video footage showed both men throwing punches inside the aircraft, prompting shock and criticism from passengers and viewers online.
Amid mounting public scrutiny, Mr Jollof released a video statement on Instagram on Monday, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation and apologising to aviation authorities, the airline, and everyone affected.
“I want to use this medium to sincerely apologise to the NCAA, United Nigeria Airlines, and the passengers that boarded the airline. I was only defending myself. You guys saw what happened, and I am very sorry if I delayed your appointment. Pardon me. This isn’t my kind of person. It will never happen again,” he said.
The comedian also apologised to his family and employer, stressing that the behaviour captured in the video does not reflect his character.
“To my lovely wife, I know you’re proud of me. To my kids, I am sorry, Daddy will never do this again. To my boss, I am very sorry, this isn’t my kind of person,” he added.
