Bukuru, NIGERIA – Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the social welfare of vulnerable widows and expanding grass-roots economic empowerment channels for youths across the state.
The policy declaration was announced on Sunday during a special Widows’ Remembrance and Worship Service held at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Bukuru, Gyel. Okay News reports that Governor Mutfwang approved an immediate N10 million financial grant to support the local church’s welfare department in providing direct livelihood assistance to bereaved women.
Addressing the congregation, the governor noted that state interventions for widows have been fully institutionalized into active government policy to safeguard their civil dignity. He highlighted that the administration recently revived the specialized Widowhood Centre in Mangu, which successfully trained over 100 women in vocational skills last year. Additionally, Mutfwang disclosed that the state government has paid its counterpart funding for a multi-sector World Bank partnership aimed at providing comprehensive economic development and vocational training for 90,000 women across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Beyond fiscal grants, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang strongly condemned the cultural practice of relatives dispossessing widows of their late husbands’ properties, urging families to uphold their primary moral responsibilities. To stimulate youth employment, the governor invited 50 young entrepreneurs from the church with viable business plans to submit executive proposals through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) for direct capital funding. He concluded by charging the Christian faithful to champion ecclesiastical unity as a vital prerequisite for securing sustainable regional peace, while advising residents to share credible intelligence files with statutory security agencies to curb criminality.
