British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua has shared an emotional public message as he prepares to attend the funeral of two close associates who lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Nigeria.
Okay News reports that the former two-time world heavyweight champion posted a photograph on social media on Saturday, just hours before the burial of Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif “Latz” Ayodele, both of whom were members of his inner circle.
The image shows Joshua seated quietly with what appeared to be close friends and family, while one person held a framed photograph of Ghami.
Accompanying the post, the boxer wrote simply: “My Brother’s Keeper,” a message widely interpreted as a pledge of solidarity and support for the bereaved families.
The post comes days after a tragic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, in southwest Nigeria, where a black Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his associates crashed into a stationary truck around the Makun axis.
Two passengers, later identified as Ghami, Joshua’s strength coach, and Ayodele, his personal trainer, died at the scene. Joshua survived the crash and sustained minor injuries.
Okay News reports that Joshua has since returned to the United Kingdom and is recuperating at his residence after being discharged from medical care. British media reports indicate that the boxer arrived at London Stansted Airport on Friday night.
The funerals of Ghami and Ayodele are scheduled to take place today at a mosque in London.
