ABUJA, Nigeria – The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr Safiyya Hassan Shaibu, has commissioned new educational and welfare facilities at Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks and Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja.
Okay News reports that the projects, commissioned on Wednesday, included a crèche and nursery school, market stalls, a perimeter fence, playground and renovated restrooms.
Shaibu described the facilities as strategic investments in the welfare and education of Nigerian Army families. She said the crèche and nursery would provide a safe environment for early childhood care and learning, while the market stalls would support entrepreneurship within the barracks community.
The NAOWA president added that the upgraded restrooms, perimeter fence and playground would improve sanitation, security and recreation for staff and pupils at Army Day Secondary School.
The newly constructed school, which can accommodate about 70 pupils, comprises crèche, playgroup, pre-nursery and nursery sections, as well as a sick bay, store, proposed inverter room and children’s playground.
Shaibu commended the Coordinator of the NAOWA AHQ Garrison Chapter, Dorathy Maxwell Dangana, and her team for executing the projects. She also thanked Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu and the Commander AHQ Garrison, Major General Maxwell Dangana, for their support.
Project Manager Ayodele Salako said construction began on February 20, 2026, and was completed within the approved schedule and budget. He said the facilities had been tested and were fully operational, with four classrooms and other amenities designed to provide a secure and modern learning environment for young children.
