Napoli manager Francesco Calzona has lauded Victor Osimhen’s resurgence after the Nigerian striker’s stunning hat-trick performance in their 6-1 victory over Sassuolo on Wednesday night.

Osimhen, who recently returned from the Africa Cup of Nations, showcased his prowess by not only netting three goals himself but also providing the assist for Kvicha Kvaratskhelia’s fifth goal. This remarkable display marked his fifth goal in three appearances since his return from international duty.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, Calzona acknowledged Osimhen’s gradual return to top form, stating, “Victor is returning to his levels. Clearly, he wasn’t in great shape after the Africa Cup of Nations, he was away for over a month and is slowly rediscovering his form.”

The Napoli manager also commended Kvaratskhelia’s performance, highlighting the resilience and determination shown by the team as a whole. “Kvara also struggled, but today showed just what he can do,” Calzona added.

Reflecting on the team’s overall performance, Calzona expressed his satisfaction with the positive attitude and dedication displayed by the players. “I sensed positivity from the first training session, the lads always gave me their all. I was surprised to see how eager they were to work, to stay together, and that gave me hope,” he remarked.

Osimhen’s impactful contribution saw him feature for 76 minutes before being replaced by Giovanni Simeone. With 13 goals and four assists in 21 appearances across all competitions this season.
