The Nasarawa State Government has commenced the disbursement of N394.55 million in bursary allowances to 10,000 indigenous students enrolled in various tertiary institutions across the country.

The initiative, covering the 2022-2023 academic session, was flagged off on Friday by Governor Abdullahi Sule at the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic in Lafia.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sule, represented by Ubandoma Aliyu, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), described the gesture as part of his administration’s commitment to easing financial burdens for parents and students.

“This is based on our conviction that building sound and quality education enhances the socio-economic development of any society,” Sule said.

The bursary initiative aims to support students financially and contribute to the state’s broader education development agenda.

Sa’adatu Yahaya, the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board, expressed gratitude to the governor for his consistent provision of bursary allowances.

“This benevolence will continue to add value to the educational pursuit and go a long way to cushion the hardship faced by students,” Yahaya said.

To ensure transparency, Yahaya disclosed that the board has adopted an e-payment system to prevent impersonation and streamline the disbursement process. “This is why we are adopting another robust data protection method in order to safeguard sensitive information about the beneficiaries and for ease of disbursement,” she added.
