Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has strongly denied allegations of financial misappropriation during his tenure, vowing to swear by the Quran to prove his innocence, Okay.ng reports.

El-Rufai made the declaration during a Hausa program aired on Freedom Radio in Kaduna on Tuesday.

He refuted claims that his administration embezzled ₦423 billion, as reported by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and reiterated that his entry into politics was motivated by a desire to serve the public, not enrich himself.

“I did not join politics to steal money or enrich myself. I was satisfied with what I had before becoming governor,” El-Rufai stated.

He emphasized that he has always sought guidance in his political decisions and remains confident that he never betrayed the trust of the people.

“Whenever the former governors of Kaduna State and other leaders are ready to swear with the Quran that they never misappropriated public funds, I will join them. I have no fear because I know I never took money that belonged to the people,” he added.

El-Rufai revealed that he has instructed his lawyers to pursue legal action against those tarnishing his name but stated that, for now, he remains focused on his personal activities, including reading and writing.

The former governor also hinted at a potential return to politics in 2027, after completing his studies, underscoring his belief that there is no retirement in politics.

El-Rufai’s comments come after the Kaduna State House of Assembly accused his administration of misappropriating ₦423 billion over his eight-year tenure.

He dismissed these accusations and left the matter to “God’s judgment.”
