Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), months after his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Okay News reports that El-Rufai officially registered with the party and received his membership card at the ADC office in Unguwar Sarki Ward, Kaduna State.
Accompanied by loyal supporters, including former political appointees and local government chairmen, El-Rufai pledged to use the ADC platform to address what he described as incompetent leadership in Kaduna State. Speaking to party officials and supporters, including the ADC Vice Chairman for North West, Honorable Jafaru Sani, and National Membership Secretary, Senator Sadiq Yar’adua, he stated:
“I am a bona fide member of the African Democratic Congress. The Social Democratic Party would not agree to open up to the coalition leadership because the government has bribed and compromised some of the leaders. Happily, the ADC agreed to the terms and conditions of the coalition leadership.”
El-Rufai explained that his full commitment had been delayed by pending by-elections and local contests, which have now concluded. He expressed gratitude to the organisers, noting, “I was informed at 6 pm yesterday to be here at 4 o’clock. And I managed to get here.”
Turning to the political stakes, El-Rufai vowed to hold the APC leadership in Kaduna accountable, citing past successes and his commitment to transparency. He urged citizens aged eighteen and above to register with the ADC, promising a repeat of the 2015 campaign that ended the previous administration, saying:
“By the grace of God, we are going to repeat what we did in 2015, when we got rid of the incompetent, thieving, stealing and corrupt People’s Democratic Party administration.”
El-Rufai also criticised the current APC-led government in Kaduna for failing to deliver on promises and acting with impunity, stating, “We contributed to bringing them into office. We therefore have a duty to contribute to sending them back home before they go to prison.”
Symbolically, El-Rufai received membership number 000002, following the coalition Vice National Chairman North West, who was assigned 000001 as the first registrant in the state.
El-Rufai had resigned from the APC on March 10, citing a disconnect between his values and the party’s direction, accusing the leadership of abandoning the progressive ideals on which the APC was founded.
