ABUJA, Nigeria: Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the lawmaker, Mike Idoko, announced the development in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday. Okay News reports that Mike Idoko stated party members and supporters participated in the affirmation exercise held across the 57 wards in the senatorial district.
The exercise was conducted simultaneously in all the wards before the final collation of results at Kahal Cinema in Okene, where party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters gathered for the conclusion of the process. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the exercise alongside members of the media to ensure compliance with due process and transparency.
Speaking after the collation of results, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan thanked party members and supporters for what she described as an overwhelming show of confidence and unity. She said, “This affirmation is a reflection of the trust and confidence the people of Kogi Central have continued to place in our collective vision for progress, inclusion and development,”
The lawmaker stated that the turnout across the district demonstrated the commitment of party members to strengthening democratic participation. She stated, “I am deeply humbled by the massive turnout across all 57 wards. This is not just about one individual; it is about our people coming together in unity to deepen democracy and build a stronger and more prosperous Kogi Central,”
She also assured supporters of her commitment to representing the interests of the district and maintaining close engagement with communities across the senatorial zone. She added, “I accept this responsibility with gratitude and renewed commitment. By the grace of God and with the continued support of our people, we will remain focused on delivering sustainable development, justice and opportunities for everyone,”
