The National Assembly of Nigeria has initiated a review of the recently gazetted tax reform laws amid concerns over alleged discrepancies. An ad hoc committee will examine the legislative and administrative processes.
Okay News reports that House of Representatives Spokesman Akin Rotimi announced the measures in a statement from Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital, on December 26, 2025. The action follows public backlash on reported alterations.
Leadership under Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas directed the Clerk to the National Assembly to re-gazette the Acts. Certified True Copies of versions passed by both chambers will issue.
The review assesses harmonisation, transmission for presidential assent, and gazetted publications. It probes potential lapses, irregularities, or external interferences.
“This review is strictly confined to institutional processes and procedures. It does not constitute, imply, or concede any defect in the exercise of legislative authority by the House of Representatives or the Senate,” Rotimi stated.
The process conforms to the Constitution, Acts Authentication Act, chamber standing orders, and parliamentary practice.
Laws under scrutiny include the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2025, and Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act 2025.
Concerns arose after Hon. Abdulsammad Dasuki highlighted material differences on December 17. He compared gazetted copies with debated and approved versions.
Rotimi urged calm and patience. Nigerians should allow institutional mechanisms without speculation.
The review safeguards legislative integrity and public interest. It ensures accuracy in official records.
This development addresses transparency in Nigeria’s tax reform implementation. Outcomes may clarify procedural adherence across government branches.
