Navy Detains Personnel After Brawl During Tinubu’s Bayelsa Visit

Abuja, NIGERIA – The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the arrest and detention of personnel involved in a public fight with soldiers during President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to Bayelsa State on Friday.

Okay News gathered that the incident, captured in a viral 53-second video, occurred as the President was departing a function. The footage shows a heated exchange between a driver in a “Naval Police” vehicle and another driver, which escalated when a soldier approached and punched the Naval officer, sparking a chaotic free-for-all in front of stunned onlookers.

In a statement released on Saturday, April 11, 2026, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abi Folorunso, confirmed that the affected personnel are currently in custody. They are undergoing disciplinary proceedings in accordance with military regulations to address the breach of conduct.

While the exact cause of the altercation remains unknown, the military high command has moved swiftly to address the embarrassment caused by the public infighting between sister agencies during a high-profile presidential event.
