NCC Blames Diesel Supply Disruption for Abuja Network Outages

The Nigerian Communications Commission has confirmed that recent disruptions to mobile services across Abuja stem from diesel supply challenges affecting power to major telecoms sites.

Okay News reports that the Commission acknowledged the issue in a statement issued on December 12 by its Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha.

The regulator said subscribers in parts of the capital have experienced a drop in quality of service, noting that the situation traces back to supply interruptions at IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider responsible for powering Airtel and MTN base stations across affected districts.

According to the Commission, the disruption was triggered by activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which halted diesel deliveries to several sites and left operators unable to maintain full power to their infrastructure.

“The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) acknowledges the Quality of Service (QoS) challenges being experienced in Abuja, which have impacted the quality of experience of telecommunications subscribers,” the statement said.

It explained that the Commission is already working with stakeholders and licensees to stabilise service. “The NCC is committed to ensuring seamless communication services for all Nigerians and recognizes the importance of reliable power supply for the provision of optimal telecommunication services.”

The regulator added that it is engaging directly with affected service providers and other stakeholders to resolve the diesel supply bottleneck.

It urged all parties involved to cooperate in clearing the obstacles that have limited network performance in recent days.

“In the face of these challenges, we reiterate our commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the growth and sustainability of telecommunications services in Nigeria,” the Commission said.

It also assured subscribers that it is closely monitoring developments and will continue to provide updates as restoration efforts progress.

The NCC thanked residents for their patience, stressing that full service quality will be restored once supply chains stabilise.
