In a major stride towards accelerating the digitization reform process in the government, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) have jointly penned a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The collaboration aims to enhance efficiency and productivity while ushering in a paperless governance system through the adoption of emerging technologies.

The MoU signing ceremony, which took place at the NCC’s Head Office in Abuja, signifies a crucial step in achieving the NCC’s Strategic Vision Plan (SVP) to partner and collaborate with relevant stakeholders.

Professor Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, emphasized the importance of the MoU in capturing the roles of enabling policies and implementing institutions for successful digital transformation.

During the event, Professor Danbatta reiterated NCC’s commitment to driving broadband penetration, which forms the backbone of the digital transformation process.

The Nigerian National Broadband Plan document has made significant provisions for the deployment of broadband infrastructure nationwide, paving the way for transformative governance and services across key sectors of the economy.

Once the digitization process is complete, governance will witness a shift towards paperless operations, enabling chief executive officers to handle tasks online, eliminating the need for offline paperwork.

The transition promises enhanced efficiency, leading to improved governance and administration for entities like the Bureau for Public Service Reforms and the Nigerian Communications Commission.

Dr. Dasuki Arabi, the Director-General of BPSR, expressed the Bureau’s decision to collaborate with NCC based on the Commission’s achievements in driving reforms and adopting emerging technologies.

NCC’s remarkable performance led it to be the first organization to win the Platinum Award of BPSR, surpassing expectations in conducting its operations effectively.

This partnership builds on the success of previous workshops and conferences on Distributed Ledger Technologies (Blockchain) held in collaboration between NCC and BPSR.

The MoU seeks to consolidate efforts in delivering a robust public service that operates within a well-functioning federal system, with zero tolerance for corruption.

By fostering cooperation between Federal and State governments, the MoU aims to improve service delivery and address the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index.

Additionally, it seeks to create a safe and secure environment that encourages economic growth and investment.

The efforts to improve access to government information and services through the Federal Government’s Scorecard for ranking websites of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are having a direct impact on Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
