ABUJA, Nigeria: The Nigeria Democratic Congress has gained access to the Independent National Electoral Commission portal to upload its candidate list for the 2027 general elections.
Okay News reports that Henry Seriake Dickson, the national leader of the political party and former governor of Bayelsa State, announced the development on Monday through a statement published on X.
Dickson stated that his name and the party’s presidential candidate have been uploaded to the system, with the vice-presidential candidate scheduled for submission the following day. The party has until July 11 to upload its National Assembly candidates, and July 17 for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.
The announcement follows a recent court ruling affecting the legal status of the party. Dickson noted that the political organization filed an appeal and an application for a stay of execution, which have been served to the commission’s chairman.
“The Nigeria Democratic Congress has come to stay and remains a duly registered party in Nigeria,” Dickson said. “Nomination processes have already been concluded and, in the eyes of the law, candidates have already emerged from the party for all offices across the country in primaries observed, monitored and recorded by INEC.”
The former governor disclosed that reconciliation efforts are underway to integrate members who did not succeed in the primary elections into the party’s campaign structures. He also commended the electoral commission for its compliance with previous court directives regarding the registration of the party and its recognition of the leadership of the African Democratic Congress.
“Having filed and served our appeal and the accompanying applications, the ball is now in the court of the judiciary, and we expect the judiciary to do what is right under the law,” Dickson said.
