Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has vowed to personally settle the outstanding match bonuses owed to his teammates if Nigerian football authorities fail to make the payments before Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal against Algeria.
The Leicester City midfielder made the pledge to quell a growing dispute that disrupted the team’s schedule and threatened to overshadow their campaign in Morocco.
Okay News reports that the squad did not hold a training session on Wednesday and had threatened to delay their travel to Marrakech due to unpaid bonuses from their four victories against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Mozambique.
Addressing the standoff, Ndidi stated, “I’ve now made a commitment to the staff and players that I’ll personally pay the bonuses if the authority fails to before Saturday.”
Following the captain’s intervention and the resolution of the immediate travel standoff, the team arrived in Marrakech on Thursday evening. The players are now expected to resume full preparations for the high-stakes knockout fixture, aiming to put the financial distraction behind them as they chase a semi-final game.
