The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced that it is reviewing its visa clearance procedures and has decided to drop a contentious requirement that mandated married women to submit an approval letter from their husbands as part of the visa application process, Okay.ng reports.
The decision comes after widespread criticism of the policy, with many people describing it as outdated and discriminatory.
The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed that the requirement for a married woman to present a letter of approval from her husband to travel has been removed as part of the ongoing review of the entire procedure.
The agency assures the public that this requirement has been discarded and will no longer be mandatory.
The updated list of requirements will be made public in the coming days.
