In a bid to combat the rampant issue of drug abuse during this transitional period, the FCT Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has embarked on a two-week raid operation code-named “Operation Tsaro.”
The operation has already yielded significant results, leading to the apprehension of thirty-four drug suspects across various drug joints.
The FCT Commander of NDLEA, Kabir Sani Tsakuwa, stressed the urgency of this operation, highlighting the detrimental effects of drug abuse on individuals and the wider society.
“We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to the menace of drug abuse, especially during this critical phase of our nation’s development,” Commander Tsakuwa stated.
“Operation Tsaro serves as a necessary step towards curbing drug-related crimes and ensuring a safer environment for all residents of the FCT.”
Since its commencement on May 8, 2023, Operation Tsaro has targeted numerous drug hotspots within the Federal Capital Territory.
The raids have been conducted in areas such as Torabora, Dei-dei, Wuse Zone 4, Wuse Zone 3, Banex, Garki Village, Area 1, Gwarimpa (Village, 3rd Avenue), Abattoir in Karu, Gwagwalada, Kabusa, and Kuchigoro IDP Camp. These locations are notorious for their involvement in illicit drug activities and have been a cause for concern among law enforcement agencies.
During the raids, a wide array of illicit substances were seized, further underscoring the magnitude of the problem.
The confiscated drugs include Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine, Tramadol, Codeine, Rohypnol, and various other psychotropic substances.
Such substances have long been associated with addiction, health complications, and the facilitation of other criminal activities.
While swift action has been taken against some of the arrested individuals, who have been charged and subsequently brought before the court, others have been identified as drug users.
These individuals are being provided with counseling sessions to address their addiction and help them reintegrate into society.
Commander Tsakuwa reassured the public that Operation Tsaro will persist until the end of the month, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to eradicating the menace of hard drugs in the FCT.
By doing so, they aim to dismantle the infrastructure that supports drug-related crimes and minimize their adverse effects on the community.
The FCT Command of NDLEA urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals involved in drug trafficking or abuse.
