Nigerian lawmaker and businessman Ned Nwoko has said his embattled wife, Regina Daniels, must undergo rehabilitation for drug-related issues, describing the move as essential to safeguard her life and ensure she is mentally stable enough to raise their two children.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Abuja, Nwoko said his insistence on rehabilitation followed a series of alarming toxicology reports which, according to him, revealed dangerously high levels of multiple substances in the actress’s system.
“I want her alive and healthy, not just for me, but for our children,” Nwoko said. “We have two young kids together, and they cannot fight for themselves. I’m going to fight for them by safeguarding their mother.”
He explained that the decision came after months of concern over Regina’s health and behavior, which he claimed had become “increasingly violent and destructive” due to alleged substance abuse. “Many people have died of drug overdose, and if anything happens to her now, what will I tell her children tomorrow?” he asked.
According to the lawmaker, he had personally taken the actress to Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja on three separate occasions after she allegedly collapsed from drug overdoses. “I have lived with this problem for eight good months, and on three occasions I had to carry her to Nizamiye Hospital unconscious from a drug overdose. You can go and verify it,” he said.
Nwoko, who presented what he described as toxicology results from medical tests, insisted that anyone discouraging Daniels from seeking professional treatment in a rehabilitation center was not acting in her best interest. “Anybody advising her against proper medical care is her real enemy—and that of her children,” he said.
He added that he was willing to pay for an independent test to verify his claims. “If her mother and those supporting her really want to prove me wrong, let them arrange for her to visit any toxicologist of their choice. Even you interviewing me now, choose any toxicologist here or abroad, and I’ll pay,” Nwoko said.
The lawmaker further accused Daniels’ siblings, particularly her brother Sammy, and some of her close friends of sabotaging her recovery process by supplying her with drugs. “Her brother and his friends have influenced her badly,” he alleged. “Each time progress was made, they would undo it by smuggling in the same drugs she was fighting to give up.”
Nwoko also reacted to recent social media claims by Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, alleging that his late son died of drug overdose in the United Kingdom. The lawmaker described the statement as “inhuman,” insisting that no autopsy linked his son’s death to drug-related causes.
“This kind of accusation is an attack on the dead,” he said. “There was no report or autopsy that said he died from drugs. It is completely false.”
Okay News reports that the couple’s marital crisis erupted after Regina Daniels accused Nwoko of physical abuse, a claim he denied, attributing her erratic behavior instead to substance use.
