The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially announced the opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, creating wider access to financial assistance for students in tertiary institutions across the country.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the loan application window will be open from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Okay News reports that the student loan initiative aims to provide timely financial relief for new and returning students struggling with tuition and related costs amid the nation’s economic challenges.

NELFUND advised fresh students to apply using their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a matriculation number. The agency also appealed to tertiary institutions to exercise patience regarding registration and school fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement.

“Institutional institutions are encouraged to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee flexibility payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement,” the statement noted.

It further urged schools that have not yet commenced their 2025/2026 academic session to formally communicate their approved academic calendar to NELFUND for scheduling flexibility.

The fund also appealed to all institutions to implement temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are still being processed, ensuring that no student loses access to education due to financial constraints.
