São Paulo, Brazil — Brazilian football star Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior has expressed disappointment after he was not included in the latest squad of the Brazil national football team, saying he feels upset but remains determined to keep working toward a return.

Neymar, who currently plays for Brazilian club Santos Futebol Clube, shared his reaction after the national team selection was announced. The forward, widely regarded as one of Brazil’s most talented footballers of his generation, said the omission from the squad was difficult for him.

Okay News reports that the decision comes as Brazil prepares for upcoming international fixtures connected to global competitions organised by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the world governing body for football.

Despite his absence from the list, Neymar said he remains focused on improving his performance through training and competitive matches.

“I’m upset, sad, about not being called up. But the focus remains day after day, training after training, game after game.

“We’re going to achieve our goal. There’s still one final call-up left and the dream lives on. That’s it, we’re in this together,” Neymar said in a message shared publicly.

The comments were reported in a post on the social media platform X by football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who often reports on player updates and international squad selections.

Neymar’s omission is believed to be linked largely to his recent injury struggles. The 34-year-old attacker has been working to regain full match fitness after a lengthy recovery period that limited his appearances and overall form.

Medical setbacks have interrupted the forward’s playing schedule in recent seasons, reducing the amount of time he has spent on the pitch. As a result, Brazil’s coaching staff appear to have opted for players who are currently in regular competitive form.

Football analysts say squad selection decisions often take into account physical fitness, recent match performance and tactical needs as teams prepare for major international tournaments.

In addition to Neymar’s fitness situation, the Brazil national team is also undergoing a broader transition. Coaches have increasingly introduced younger players into the squad as the team prepares for future international competitions.

Brazil has historically been one of the most successful national teams in world football, having won the FIFA World Cup five times. The country continues to produce emerging talents who compete for places in the national team alongside experienced players.

Neymar remains one of Brazil’s most recognisable football figures. Over the course of his career he has played for several major clubs, including Spanish team Football Club Barcelona and French club Paris Saint-Germain Football Club.

During those periods he won multiple domestic league titles and major European trophies, while also becoming one of the highest scoring players in Brazil national team history.

Although his absence from the latest squad has generated discussion among football fans, Neymar’s comments suggest he still hopes to return to the national team before future selections are finalised.

His statement indicated that he remains motivated and focused on regaining top form while continuing to play for Santos Futebol Clube in Brazil’s domestic competitions.
