The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) is gearing up to host a significant event aimed at fostering cross-border trading in Africa.

The African Exchanges Linkage Project (AELP) webinar, themed “Exchange Linkage Project – Facilitating Trades Across Borders,” is set to take place on Wednesday, 14 June 2023.

Market operators, investors, and various stakeholders are invited to participate in this insightful event, which aims to provide an overview of AELP, its origin, objectives, and the benefits it brings to the market.

Supported by esteemed financial institutions such as Chapel Hill Denham Securities Limited, Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc, Cordros Securities Limited, and Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Limited, the webinar will shed light on the integration of Pan African Payment and Settlement Systems (PAPSS) with AELP.

Additionally, participants will gain valuable insights into the ongoing engagement to address cross-border trade settlement issues and other essential cross-border transaction requirements.

AELP, a flagship project of the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA), has received support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to facilitate the seamless trading of securities across African markets.

The project’s first phase successfully established connectivity between seven participating exchanges, namely Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières (BRVM), which integrates eight West African markets, Casablanca Stock Exchange (CSE), Egyptian Exchange (EGX), Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), Nigerian Exchange (NGX), and Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM). These linkages pave the way for increased collaboration and investment opportunities across various markets.

Distinguished speakers at the event will include Mr. Temi Popoola, the Chief Executive Officer of NGX, Mr. Thapelo Tsheole, the President of ASEA and Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Stock Exchange, Mr. Lamido Yuguda, the Director General of Securities and Exchange Commission, Ms. Tinuade Awe, the Chief Executive Officer of NGX Regulation Limited, Mr. Haruna Jalo-Waziri, the Chief Executive Officer of CSCS, among others.

Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to engage with industry leaders such as Mr. Ositadimma Ugwu, Head of Technology and Operations at Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), Mr. Akeem Shadare, Chief Executive Officer of Chapel Hill Denham, and Mr. Babangida Yahaya, Head of Depository Services at Central Securities and Clearing System Plc (CSCS).
