Niger Fuel Tank Explosion: Tinubu Condoles Govt, Victims Families

President Bola Tinubu has condoled with the Niger State government and the families affected by the fuel tanker explosion on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai road in Niger State on Sunday, which led to the death of 48 people and dozens of cattle.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu promised to continue to support efforts to help those affected by the incident.

The statement read in part: “President Bola Tinubu has expressed his sincere condolences to the government and people of Niger State over the explosion of a fuel tank on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai road on Sunday in the State of Niger that claimed the lives of 48 people and livestock.

“According to the Niger Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), many people were injured in the accident, which also involved a truck loaded with livestock and passengers.

“President Tinubu expressed his condolences to the families of the dead and injured victims. He also expressed sympathy for the shop owners affected by the tragedy.

“He prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded.”

Tinubu commended the federal and state emergency agencies for their quick response.

The statement continued: “He also commended well-meaning Nigerians who mobilized to the scene of the incident to help the victims.

“He pledged to continue to support efforts to provide assistance to those affected.

“President Tinubu has called on federal agencies responsible for transport and road infrastructure to redouble their efforts and work with state governments to improve the safety of passengers and residents.”
