KADUNA, Nigeria: On Friday, May 1, 2026, Nigeria‘s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved infrastructure contracts valued at over ₦1.178 trillion ($841 million) for Kaduna State.
Okay News reports that Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, acting on behalf of the Kaduna State Government, commended the Federal Executive Council for approving the contracts.
The primary approval is the Kaduna Light Rail Project, a 50-kilometre urban transit system valued at ₦1 trillion ($714 million). The route consists of a 30-kilometre corridor from Rigachikun to Sabon Tasha and a 20-kilometre line from Millennium City to Rigasa.
The council also approved the reconstruction of the Mando to Kaduna to Birnin Gwari road. This 122-kilometre highway project is valued at ₦178 billion ($127 million).
The state government detailed that the rail project aligns with an ongoing transport reform agenda involving a Bus Rapid Transit system and the introduction of compressed natural gas buses.
Sani stated the road reconstruction fulfills a campaign commitment made during Tinubu’s visit to the area before the 2023 election.
The governor affirmed the state government will ensure the execution of the projects to improve access to rural communities and support agricultural activities.
