ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government of Nigeria approved a N150 billion ($100 million) extension of the Bodo-Bonny Road project in Rivers State.
Okay News reports that Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the approval during a meeting with the management of Nigeria LNG Limited on Thursday, April 30, 2026, stating the project will be presented to the Federal Executive Council for ratification.
The road extension will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement using reinforced concrete technology designed to last between 50 and 100 years. The project design integrates truck parking facilities, rest areas, solar-powered street lighting, and service stations along the corridor.
Umahi said, “We are introducing CCTV surveillance systems along key highways with strategically located monitoring centres. This will enable us to respond to emergencies in less than 10 minutes, which is a major leap in road safety and security management in Nigeria.”
The government mandated a 12-month completion timeline for the project. Umahi said, “This administration is serious about efficiency and accountability. We have set a clear delivery timeline of not more than 12 months from the date of award, and there will be no room for cost variation.”
During the meeting, Nigeria LNG Limited Managing Director, Adeleye Falade, presented a model of a Compressed Natural Gas-powered ship to the minister.
