Nigeria-U23-Dream-Team

Nigeria U23s came from behind to beat their counterparts from Honduras 3-1 and avoid total disgrace at the Suwon International Tournament in Korea.

It was a much-needed result for coach Samson Siasia’s team, who had lost their first two matches in the tourney – 1-0 to hosts Korea and 6-2 to Denmark.

All four teams at this tournament are preparing for the Rio Olympics in August.

Honduras raced into the lead after 17 minutes through Alberth Elis.

However, skipper Azubuike Okechukwu equalised for Nigeria after 61 minutes with a superbly taken goal.

Godwin Saviour made it 2-1 for Nigeria when he converted a penalty in the 69th minute after Ndifreke Effiong was fouled inside the box.

Defender Saturday then scored a third goal for Nigeria, when he fired home from almost the center of the pitch past goalkeeper Fonseca.

The Central Americans dominated the first half and even came close to doubling their lead in the 34th minute courtesy of Lozano.

But in the second half, Nigeria stepped up their game with Usman Mohammed missing a glit-edged chance to draw them level in the 47th minute, but he chose to miss. And minutes after his combination with Godwin Saviour failed to produce a goal.
