Nigeria Customs Releases N7.61bn to PFAs for 4,237 Retirees

Published

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has released N7.61 billion ($5.5 million) to nine Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) for prompt payment to 4,237 retirees.

Okay News reports that Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi disclosed the release on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, during a dialogue with retired personnel of the Service.

Adeniyi said the funds had been transferred to the PFAs for onward payment into the individual accounts of the beneficiaries. The disbursement is part of efforts to address pension-related concerns and improve the welfare of retired customs officers.

Premium Pension had the highest number of beneficiaries with 2,268 retirees, followed by Access-ARM Pension Managers with 1,223. Other beneficiaries are from Leadway Pensions, TrustFund Pensions, FCMB Pensions, Veritas Glanvills Pensions, Norrenberger Pensions and Fidelity Pension Managers.

The Customs chief said the Service must remain financially capable of meeting its obligations to both serving officers and retirees, stressing that the welfare of personnel who dedicated decades to the institution was linked to its future.

He also urged retirees to maintain constructive engagement with the Service to promote better understanding and reduce the impact of rumours and unofficial information on relations between retired and serving personnel.

The dialogue was attended by Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resources Development, Tijjani Abe, and other members of the NCS Management Team.

The retirees thanked the Comptroller-General for responding to their concerns and urged the Service to sustain the dialogue as part of efforts to strengthen its relationship with former personnel.

The meeting comes amid broader efforts to review pension arrangements for retirees following the Federal Government’s move to examine statutory provisions governing pensions, including Section 15(4) of the Pension Reform Act 2014, in line with the 1999 Constitution.
