ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays across the country to mark the annual Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the development on behalf of the government on Monday, wishing the global Islamic community a peaceful commemoration.
Okay News reports that the declaration was contained in an official statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja.
According to the statement, the two-day holiday underscores the administration’s profound respect for the religious devotion, faith, and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims joining the global community to observe the sacred occasion.
Tunji-Ojo extended warm felicitations to the Muslim faithful both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a festival of deep spiritual significance rooted firmly in the core values of absolute sacrifice, obedience to God, and genuine compassion for humanity.
