Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Ministry of Education has introduced the Procurement Compliance Monitoring System, a digital platform aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency in procurement processes across Nigeria’s education sector.
Okay News reports that the announcement came during a capacity-building session for procurement officers at the National Universities Commission Auditorium. This is part of ongoing efforts to ensure education projects are executed efficiently and public resources are effectively managed.
Minister of Education Maruf Olatunji Alausa stated that delays in procurement have hindered implementation of key projects. These delays stem from incomplete documentation, weak submissions, and procedural lapses.
The new system allows management of procurement processes electronically across the Ministry, its agencies, commissions, parastatals, and tertiary institutions. It enables real-time tracking of submissions, reduces approval timelines, and ensures timely project delivery.
Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adedokun, noted that recurring issues have consistently delayed projects. The system is expected to streamline activities, minimize administrative bottlenecks, and enhance monitoring of compliance across all educational institutions.
The launch comes alongside broader government efforts to digitize education. The government recently unveiled plans to connect all schools nationwide to reliable internet. This aims to strengthen digital learning and expand access to modern educational tools.
This builds on previous programmes including the Nigerian Research and Education Network and the eLearn platform launched in 2025. The eLearn platform provides curriculum-aligned digital resources to students and teachers across all education levels.
The government also inaugurated Nigeria’s first National Educational Technology Strategy. It launched the Inspire Live programme, which streams real-time interactive lessons nationwide. This aims to bridge gaps in access to quality education, particularly in underserved communities.
