Nigeria has been thrown into yet another blackout as the national grid recorded a fresh collapse on Tuesday, plunging homes and businesses across the country into darkness.

The grid failure reportedly occurred around 2:09 p.m., bringing the total number of grid disturbances to nine so far in 2024.

At the time of filing this report, the national grid’s output had dropped to zero megawatts, leaving millions without power.

Okay.ng understands that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which oversees the grid, has yet to confirm the cause of the latest collapse, keeping Nigerians in the dark regarding the reason behind this round of blackouts.

This year has seen repeated disruptions to the national power supply, beginning with the first collapse on February 4, when the grid failed at approximately 11:51 a.m.

On that occasion, grid capacity dropped sharply from 2,407 megawatts to just 31 megawatts by noon, before shutting down entirely by 1 p.m.
