Abuja, Nigeria – The Inspector-General of Police of Nigeria, Olatunji Disu, who leads the Nigeria Police Force, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police Ali Giwa as the Force New Media Officer.

The appointment was confirmed on Sunday, March 8, 2026, by the former Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a post shared on the social media platform X.

“Equally, the IGP has approved the appointment of CSP Ali Giwa @aleeygiwa as Force New Media Officer,” Hundeyin wrote.

The role forms part of a newly established New Media Office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. The unit is designed to strengthen the digital communication strategy of the Nigeria Police Force and improve how the institution shares information about its activities with the public through online platforms.

Okay News reports that the creation of the new media office reflects a broader effort by the Nigeria Police Force to expand its engagement with citizens through modern communication channels and social media, particularly as public institutions increasingly rely on digital platforms to provide updates and respond to public concerns.

According to Giwa’s professional record, he is a Chief Superintendent of Police in the Nigeria Police Force with more than 15 years of service in law enforcement. His experience covers several areas of policing including public order management, cybercrime investigation, cybersecurity operations, and general law enforcement duties.

He currently works as a Cybersecurity Specialist at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center in Abuja. The center is responsible for investigating cyber-related crimes across Nigeria and coordinating national responses to online security threats.

Before this new appointment, Giwa served as Police Assistant to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in the Department of Logistics and Supply between September 2023 and December 2024.

He has also held several public communication roles within the police institution. These include serving as Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Limited, a financial cooperative organization linked to police personnel. He also worked as Assistant Police Public Relations Officer at the Obalende Annex of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest commercial city.

Giwa later served as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force.

Over the years, he has performed operational policing duties in various formations within Lagos State in southwestern Nigeria. His assignments have included serving as a crime officer, surveillance officer, and human rights officer.

His appointment comes shortly after the Inspector-General of Police approved another key communication role within the police leadership structure.

Earlier, the Inspector-General named Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, replacing Benjamin Hundeyin as the national spokesperson of the institution.

According to an official statement issued from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Placid is regarded as an experienced police officer with a professional background covering administration, operational policing, intelligence gathering, training, and international peacekeeping assignments.

Anthony Placid was born on Wednesday, December 2, 1970, in Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom State in southern Nigeria. He is originally from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Placid holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State. He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, a federal university located in Plateau State in central Nigeria.

In addition, he studied law at the National Open University of Nigeria, a government-owned distance learning university, where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree.

The latest appointments are part of ongoing leadership adjustments within the Nigeria Police Force as the organization expands its public communication structure and digital engagement with citizens.
