ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, announced on Friday, June 12, 2026, that military forces killed over 13,000 terrorists during the past year and recorded an 81 percent decline in terror-related deaths since 2015.
Okay News reports that Bola Tinubu delivered these figures during a national address at 7:14 am WAT marking the country’s 27th Democracy Day celebration.
The president said, “Terror-related deaths are down by 81 per cent since 2015. Over 13,000 terrorists have been neutralised in the past year.” He detailed that military operations included targeting specific militant locations. Tinubu said, “In Arege, Borno State, we degraded ISWAP’s command centre.”
Discussing international cooperation, Tinubu said, “We have moved from training with our allies. the United States, France and other European countries, to precision targeting.”
Tinubu attributed these statistics to increased fiscal allocations to security, citing the 2026 national budget which provides 5.41 trillion Naira (approximately 3.6 billion USD) for defense. This spending plan funds the recruitment of more than 50,000 police officers and thousands of military recruits under a declared security emergency.
