Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, hosted a high-powered delegation from the United States Congress in Abuja on Sunday as both nations renewed their commitment to deepening cooperation on shared security priorities.

The engagement marked another phase of sustained diplomatic exchanges between Nigeria and the United States of America, following earlier discussions in Washington, District of Columbia, where both sides outlined strategic objectives in counter-terrorism and regional stability.

Okay News reports that Ribadu disclosed the visit through a message posted on his official X platform on Saturday, describing the meeting as part of a broader fact-finding effort by the United States Congress to better understand Nigeria’s evolving security environment.

In his words, “This morning, I received a United States Congressional delegation on a fact-finding mission to Nigeria, following our earlier engagements in Washington, District of Columbia, on shared security priorities.”

He further explained that the discussions covered counter-terrorism operations, approaches to strengthening peace across West Africa, and efforts to reinforce the Nigeria–United States strategic security partnership. According to him, the United States delegation included Representative Mario Díaz-Balart, Representative Norma Torres, Representative Scott Franklin, Representative Juan Ciscomani, and Representative Riley Moore, accompanied by the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Richard Mills.

Ribadu expressed optimism that the renewed engagement would lead to tangible progress and stronger trust between the two countries. “I am optimistic this engagement will deepen trust, collaboration, and our shared commitment to peace and security,” he stated.

The meeting signals an increasing tempo in bilateral security cooperation as Nigeria continues to address internal security challenges while collaborating with international partners on counter-terrorism and stabilization efforts across the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea regions.
