The Government of Nigeria states that it is taking urgent action to rescue female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, located in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State in northwestern Nigeria.
The attack resulted in the deaths of school officials and the disappearance of several students.
President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, restates that the protection of all citizens, particularly schoolchildren, remains a core obligation of the state. The government condemns the assault as a criminal act targeting unarmed students and educators.
Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies have been instructed to identify the attackers, rescue the students, and prosecute those responsible. The government indicates that operations are underway and will continue until the girls are safely recovered.
Officials say internal security reform remains central to national policy. The federal administration is restructuring military, police, and intelligence systems to better prevent attacks and respond more effectively when they occur.
Nigeria is also strengthening border security cooperation with institutions such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force, which focuses on dismantling armed groups operating across the Lake Chad Basin.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, urges the public to remain calm, stating that the government is committed to securing the students and restoring stability.
