The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Thursday that 87,209,007 permanent voter cards (PVC) have been collected across Nigeria.

The announcement was made by the INEC Chairperson, Mahmood Yakubu, during a media briefing at the national collation centre in Abuja.

The PVC collection exercise had initially been scheduled to take place from December 12 to January 22 in all local government areas (LGAs). However, the deadline was extended twice until February 5.

While speaking at the briefing, Yakubu expressed satisfaction that the rate of PVC collection was higher than in previous years, but added that many PVCs were still uncollected.

Data provided to journalists shows that out of 93,469,008 registered voters in Nigeria, 93.3 percent have collected their PVCs.

However, 6,259,229 cards, which represent 6.7 per cent of PVCs, remain uncollected.

Lagos state leads in the number of collected PVCs with 6,214,970, followed by Kano with 5,594,193, and Kaduna with 4,164,473.

Meanwhile, Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun states have the highest number of uncollected PVCs, with 845,225, 515,254, and 410,281 respectively.
