Nigerian Ambassador Kayode Are Presents Credentials to Trump

Washington, United States – Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Kayode Are, presented his Letter of Credence to United States President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, May 21.

Okay News reports that Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, confirmed the presentation in a social media post on Sunday, May 24.

Omokri said, “Hearty congratulations to my friend, His Excellency, Colonel Kayode Are (Rtd), Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States of America, who has presented his Letters of Credence to President Donald Trump, after his posting to the USA by His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Thursday, January 22, 2026.”

The White House stated the ceremony featured an honour guard mounted by the armed forces, officers of the U.S. State Department, and staff of the National Security Council. Ambassadors from 11 other countries, including South Africa, Chad, Chile, Yemen, Australia, and Kyrgyzstan, also presented their credentials during the event.

President Tinubu approved the posting following confirmation by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025. Are, born in 1955, is a retired Nigerian Army Colonel and former Director-General of the State Security Service, now the Department of State Services.

He served as Director-General of the agency from 1999 until August 2007 under former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and previously held the position of Deputy National Security Adviser.
