Nigerian Army Arrests Shiite Leader ‘Elzakzaky’

The Nigerian Army has arrested Ibrahim Elzakzaky, leader of the Shi’te Islamic sect in Nigeria and demolished the Hussainiyya shrine.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the arrest follows a siege on his Zaria residence. A top leader of the movement, Muhammadu Turi, and the head of the medical team of the sect, Mustapha Saidu, and several others were killed during the siege.

A source at the military hospital in Chindit Barracks Depot of the Nigerian Army, Zaria, told PREMIUM TIMES that they received 19 bodies of people killed in the encounter.

The Nigerian Army is accusing the Shi’te sect of attempting to assassinate Lt General Tukur Buratai .
