Nigerian Army Chief Orders Troops to Intensify Crackdown on Bandits, Kidnappers

ILORIN, Nigeria — The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops of Joint Task Force North Central Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD to intensify operations against kidnappers, bandits, and other criminal groups operating across the North Central region.

The Army Chief gave the directive during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force at Sobi Barracks in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday.

Okay News reports that Lieutenant General Shaibu urged troops to sustain the current operational momentum aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and preventing armed groups from threatening communities across Kwara and Niger states.

He assured personnel that the Nigerian Army was deploying additional combat support and operational resources to strengthen ongoing security operations within the region.

The COAS also reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of soldiers and their families, stating that improved welfare remained essential to maintaining morale, professionalism, and operational readiness.

He further urged troops to remain disciplined, loyal to the Constitution, and committed to protecting lives and property across the country.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD, Major General Y. Yahaya, commended the Army Chief for his continued support and strategic leadership, assuring him that troops would remain dedicated to restoring peace and stability in the Joint Operations Area.
