ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, has dismissed as false and misleading a viral claim alleging that troops provided cover for perpetrators of the Palm Sunday attack on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos, Plateau State.
Okay News reports that the allegation, reportedly made by a youth leader from the community, accused security forces of complicity in the unprovoked attack in Angwan Rukuba, which resulted in the loss of lives. However, the military authorities said the claim does not reflect the reality of events.
According to the task force, troops responded swiftly after receiving a distress call regarding the incident. They noted that the attack location was some distance from where personnel were initially deployed, and by the time troops arrived, the assailants had already fled the scene.
The statement added that troops acted professionally to prevent further escalation and immediately pursued the fleeing attackers, an action said to have been witnessed by survivors and corroborated by other security agencies.
It further revealed that four gun trucks were dispatched to the area, reinforcing the response effort and helping to stabilise the situation upon arrival. The military maintained that a prompt investigation into the allegation confirmed that troops did not aid the attackers in any form.
Describing the viral comment as “false, misleading and unfortunate,” the task force warned that such claims could undermine troop morale and strain relations between the military and host communities.
The military urged members of the public to disregard the allegation, remain calm, and continue to support security agencies with credible information. It also assured that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with other agencies, to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack while sustaining peace across .
