Abuja, NIGERIA – The Nigerian Army has strongly refuted allegations made by a dismissed lance corporal, Rotimi Olamilekan, popularly known as “Soja Boi,” describing his claims regarding lack of equipment and poor remuneration as deliberate falsehoods.
Okay News gathered that the Army issued a comprehensive rebuttal on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, following a viral interview where Olamilekan claimed soldiers were forced to purchase their own uniforms and bulletproof gear. The Army clarified that Olamilekan was not dismissed for “speaking the truth,” but for persistent and grave acts of indiscipline, including violations of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and the unauthorized commercialization of his military identity.
Addressing the most controversial claim, the Army categorically denied that troops are required to buy their own protective gear, emphasizing that the provision of uniforms, helmets, and bulletproof vests is an institutional responsibility managed through dedicated ordnance units. The statement noted that no soldier is deployed to an operational theatre without the necessary equipment, adding that while some personnel might choose to supplement issued kits for personal comfort, this is purely voluntary and not a result of a lack of provision.
The military also defended its financial administration, noting that personnel receive more than just a basic salary. Beyond consolidated monthly pay, soldiers receive uniform allowances, Ration Cash Allowances, and mission-specific entitlements for those in theaters like Operation HADIN KAI. The Army described Olamilekan’s portrayal of soldiers receiving no additional benefits as misleading and inaccurate, reiterating its commitment to troop welfare and warning that such reckless assertions only serve to undermine public confidence.
