Nigerian Army Recovers Remains of Slain Soldier Couple in IPOB/ESN Camp

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Orsu, Imo State, NIGERIA — Troops of the 82 Division, in collaboration with sister security agencies, dismantled a notorious IPOB/ESN camp in Imo State on Friday.

The operation, conducted along the Ubaha Orsu axis, led to the grim discovery of shallow graves suspected to contain the remains of two Nigerian Army personnel murdered four years ago.

The mission was specifically aimed at locating Master Warrant Officer Linus Musa Audu and Private Gloria Mathew.

Okay News recalls that the couple was brutally abducted and beheaded in May 2022 while traveling to their traditional wedding—a tragedy that sparked national outrage. Following years of intelligence gathering, troops finally breached the hideout despite coming under heavy fire and repelling multiple ambushes from the armed criminals.

Upon clearing the camp, the military conducted a meticulous search that uncovered shallow graves. The suspected remains have been secured for DNA testing and detailed forensic analysis to conclusively confirm their identities. The Army has confirmed it is currently liaising with the families of the fallen heroes to facilitate befitting burial arrangements with full military honors once identification is finalized.

The Nigerian Army emphasized that the discovery further exposes the “heinous atrocities and disregard for human life” displayed by the proscribed group. Military authorities have vowed to sustain these clearance operations until criminal elements are neutralized and lasting peace is restored to the South-East. “This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for our fallen heroes,” the Army stated in a weekend brief.
