Nigerian electricity workers suspend nationwide strike

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

The National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE has suspended its strike.

Okay.ng understands that the union started the strike on Wednesday to draw federal government’s attention to the demands of its members.

However, following a meeting with the officials of the federal government and the union, the one-day strike was called off.

Comrade Joe Ajaero, National President of NUEE, announced the suspension of the strike following the outcome of the meeting where the workers’ grievances were addressed.

“We have concluded deliberations and all issues were addressed but we are awaiting implementation. Meanwhile, our strike action is suspended,” he said.

It can be recalled that the workers had earlier given a 21-day ultimatum to the federal government which expired at midnight on Tuesday.
