Members of the Nigerian Governors Forum have approved the withdrawal of $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account for the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgents in the North-east.

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Council Chambers of the State House.

Obaseki said council members expected that the money would be spent on the purchase of security equipment, procurement of intelligence and logistics, among others.

Obaseki said the approval was announced by the chairman of the NGF, and the governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari.

The governor of Gombe state, who spoke earlier, said the Excess Crude Account had a balance of $2.317 billion as at December 13, 2017.
