Abuja, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has extended his congratulations to Muslims across Nigeria as they mark Eid-el-Fitr, the Islamic festival that signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio called on Muslims to uphold the core values associated with the celebration, including compassion, forgiveness, and unity. He also encouraged continued acts of charity and kindness, especially toward vulnerable members of society.

“This joyous celebration reminds us of the profound values of compassion, forgiveness, and unity that Eid-el-Fitr embodies,” Akpabio said.

He further urged Nigerians of all backgrounds to promote empathy and generosity, while wishing the country peace, progress, and shared prosperity. His message also extended goodwill to Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and citizens nationwide.

Okay News reports that similar messages were shared by political figures in southwestern Nigeria. Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, a region in southwestern Nigeria, praised Muslims for their dedication during Ramadan.

He encouraged residents of Osun State to reflect the lessons of the fasting period in their daily lives, highlighting patience, discipline, compassion, and sacrifice as essential values for building a peaceful and prosperous society.

Speaking on governance and development, Oyebamiji stressed the importance of strong leadership in driving economic growth, job creation, youth empowerment, and improved infrastructure in the state. He also called for unity across religious and ethnic groups, adding, “Together, with faith in Almighty Allah and a shared determination to move Osun forward, we can build a brighter future for our children and generations yet unborn.”

Also joining the Eid message was Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Nigeria’s ruling political party. Basiru urged Muslims to maintain the spiritual discipline cultivated during Ramadan and continue engaging in acts of worship and charity beyond the fasting period.

He also addressed broader national issues, encouraging citizens to support ongoing reforms under the current administration and work collectively to address security challenges facing the country.

Across the messages, the leaders emphasized the importance of unity, peaceful coexistence, and generosity, urging Nigerians to use the Eid celebration as an opportunity to strengthen social harmony and national development.
