Abuja, Nigeria — The President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arrived in the nation’s capital of Abuja on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. His return follows a period of official engagements in Europe and personal observations of the Islamic holiday, Eid-el-Fitr, in the commercial hub of Lagos.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in an official statement released on Wednesday evening. Onanuga noted that the leader’s aircraft departed from the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos at 6:44 pm West African Time (WAT, GMT+1).
President Tinubu’s itinerary began with a high-profile state visit to the United Kingdom, where he sought to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties. Following his stay in London, he traveled directly to Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, in the early hours of Friday to participate in the Eid-el-Fitr festivities. While in Lagos, the President performed the traditional holiday prayers at the Dodan Barracks, a former military headquarters and current presidential lodge.
During his time in the coastal city, the President maintained a busy schedule of political and business consultations. Okay News reports that he hosted 23 state governors, including the Governor of Ekiti State in southwest Nigeria, Biodun Oyebanji. His guest list also featured prominent figures such as the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, and a delegation representing the European Union (EU). Additionally, he met with the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), a body of influential political leaders in the region.
The President’s stay also included a security briefing from Vice President Kashim Shettima. The Vice President visited Lagos to provide an update on his recent assessment of Borno State in northeast Nigeria, following a tragic suicide bombing incident in that area.
As the President prepared for his flight back to Abuja, he was seen off by several high-ranking officials. These included the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat; and the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun. Former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, was also present among the group of dignitaries and political party leaders at the airport.
